Beat the Heat: 6 Ways to Keep Your Dog Happy in the Summer Sun
We feel the same way about this time of year—summer is pawsome! But with all the fun in the sun comes a big responsibility as a pet owner: keeping your dog cool, comfy, and content during these sizzling hot days.

Freeze the Fun
Stuff a Kong with peanut butter, bananas, or plain yogurt and freeze it for a cool treat. You can also make your own DIY pup-sicles using dog-safe ingredients. They’re tasty, healthy, and keep your dog entertained when it’s too hot to play outside.
Shade Over Sun
Even sun-loving dogs need a break from the UV rays. Create shady spots in your yard or bring a pop-up canopy to the beach. When indoors, let them nap in the coolest room of the house with the fan on low.
Pool Party, Pup Style
Many dogs love a splash in a kiddie pool. Keep it shallow, supervise play, and don’t forget the towel for post-swim zoomies! If your dog is not a fan of water, a simple damp towel laid in the shade works great for cool lounging.
Never Leave Them in the Car—Ever
Even a quick grocery run can turn deadly. Temperatures inside a parked car can soar in minutes, even with windows cracked. If your dog can’t come in with you, they should stay at home in the AC either crated or free-to-roam (if well trained).
Protect the Paws
Hot pavement can burn sensitive paws. Test it with your hand: if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. Stick to grassy walks or grab a pair of dog booties for protection.
Keep Them Calm During Summer Chaos
Between fireworks, BBQs, and kids running everywhere, summer can be a bit overwhelming. Having a soft space and familiar comfort items helps. Talk to your vet if your pup shows signs of high anxiety.
Dogs bring joy to our summers—let’s return the favor. With a little prep (and a lot of frozen treats), you can keep your pup cool, comfy, and full of tail wags from June through September.
