My friends and I span all walks of the education spectrum.  While I am homeschooling my tribe through co-ops and at home, some of my nearest and dearest send their little ones to public, private, motessori, and waldorf schools. Some even -gasp- unschool their children.  A few of us were chatting about our almost 3 year olds and the outrageous expectations placed on them in our current education system. One friend told us that she was signing her son up this year for a ‘Nature Preschool.’  The rest of us thought she was talking about a fancy new preschool in the city that may have a more elaborate nature-inspired playground.  And then she pulled up this fabulous website. And then our jaws dropped.

It’s such a crapshoot out there. Shelves stocked full of sunscreen choices. You think that anything is better is nothing. You think that sunscreen not only keeps you from burning, but protects you from skin cancer. Obviously, you must buy it. Especially if you have a child. Heaven forbid you skip the sunscreen on a child. Again you think, ‘Anything is better than nothing.’ But this is wrong. So wrong.

Something amazing happens when we have sex.  Not only can fireworks happen in the bed, but new research has witnessed that an actual firework – a spark – happens when a high-quality match of sperm and egg make contact.

It’s Mother’s Day weekend, and while we are all elbow deep in mimosas and fancy brunches -or laundry and dirty diapers, I think we need to take a minute to celebrate our mom friendships.  You see, I truly believe that ‘The Village’ is alive and well! The modern village may not be the same as THE village that everyone is always talking about, but like most things in life – it has evolved. Today’s village consists of tens of thousands of tribes, each one strong and supportive.  While tribes may see things differently, as a whole, the village is a force to be reckoned with. So this Mother’s Day, let’s take a moment to be thankful for our tribe, whether it be large or small – brand new or two decades old. The people who lift us up, support us through it all, withhold judgement, vent frustrations and celebrate successes.  Those we can depend on; those we view as extended family.
