I feel as though we live in a “Fast Food” society. One in which, the faster we can be done with something, the faster we can move on to the next task. Very few people take joy in the little things anymore. I can’t stand on a pedestal here, as I am just as guilty as the next person, BUT I am working on changing this trait. I want to instill a sense of calmness and appreciation in my children (and myself) that is rooted to their being, not just something they sometimes think about. I want my children to always know that a handmade gift is better than store bought, that a letter sent snail mail is more fun than an e-mail or text message, and that a made by hand valentine is full of more love than anything bought in a store.

Hi there! It’s me, your friendly know-it-all mom-friend about to jump up on her soap box (again). Hey, we all have our platforms; I just happen to have a few of them. <Understatement of the year> I want to start this article off with a bit of science. You see, a simple unknown mistake of improper installation, buckle placement, or premature forward facing of a car seat can end with life-long injury or death to the child.

What? Bedtime at your house is delightful? BULL. You wouldn’t be reading this if that were the truth. We have experienced “Bedtime Hell” for the last 6 years. My children do not fall asleep alone, stay asleep, sleep through the night, or any of that other crap that sleep trained kids do. Hell, my kids still sleep with us 50-75% of the night, on any given night. (Did you read my post on bed sharing?) About 7:30pm each night, my husband casually asks, “Hey, are you going to start putting kids to bed?” And then I give him THE LOOK. You know what I’m talking about… that look of death, like, “Why in the bloody hell can you not do bedtime E.V.E.R.” (oh, because you either fall asleep WITH the children or BEFORE the children.)

Small Business Saturday: Beginning in 2010, Small Business Saturday encouraged shoppers across the country to shop local and support small businesses. By 2014, it is estimated that people are catching on. They are voting with their dollars. $14.3 billion was spent last year on this wonderful day – at small, independently owned businesses!
