Apples and Apples and Apples, Oh My!
When we lived in Florida, apple season didn’t really exist more than ‘SALE on Apples’ at the grocery store. I was not raised apple picking and had never even seen a real apple tree before moving up to Northern Virginia. I’m happy to say that we are going apple picking! I’ve learned something with having a large(r) sized family though – we don’t pick a ‘small’ amount of anything. We hate waste. A family of 6 eats A LOT – and costs A LOT. I really try not to waste food. My kids are still tiny and we already take out an entire pan of (gluten-free) chicken and veggie baked ziti in one meal. That being said, everyone has different tastes. Some kids like apple sauce, others hate it. Some like cut apples, others don’t. I even have one who won’t drink apple juice. So before we go picking apples next week, I need a plan for the thousand apples we will be returning with. Note: We just returned to the world of ‘Gluten-Free’ for my son who has issues with it. So I’ll be subbing King Arthur’s gluten-free flour whenever possible – and egg substitutes due to his egg allergy. So basically, my recipes will vary greatly from all of these delicious ones. I won’t lie though, I’ll be making gluten-filled, egg-filled versions for my husband and I. Whatever, I’m a horrible mother.
