Meet Vincent: The Turtle With Heart
In the race of life, it pays off to stay at your pace, remain strong, and never give up. There is something so special about someone who stays true to himself in the craziness around him. We would like you to meet Vincent, a determined little turtle. Vincent has a very special story to tell.It was a warm day, late in Spring – so close to Summer that Vincent could almost taste the afternoon rain showers in the air. Vincent knew his friends would be at the local water spot enjoying the beautiful day. He packed a lunch and slowly made his way through his patch of the forest toward the water hole. Now Vincent is not the fastest animal, and this could be quite frustrating to some animals, but those who knew and loved Vincent understood that his patience brought a sense of calmness to their hearts. Vincent enjoyed spending his days with friends, and today was no exception. They swam and ate; they played and chatted. Before parting ways, a noise was heard in the distance. It was the unmistakable sound of tears being shed. The animals all rushed toward the crying, while Vincent moved as quickly as he could. In the hurry of running, the other animals did not have time to notice the other sound that faintly beckoned to Vincent. As he finally reached the group, he saw what was causing so much sadness: A young animal laid in his mother’s lap. The sound that drew Vincent closer was the sound of the young one’s heart. While all the animals around him understood that the little one would soon be gone, as his body was weak after a predator had invaded his space and wounded him, Vincent kept walking. He walked up to the mother and young animal and said, “Oh your heart is so full of sadness, and it will continue to hurt for a lifetime, but your little one’s heartbeat has told me a secret.” With sad eyes, the mother looked at Vincent. “You see, I can carry his heartbeat for you to hear whenever you need to remember what a wonderful heart it was.” Vincent continued, “His heart has not given up yet. He is strong and courageous and has the ability to share this strength and save another mother from this heartache.” Through her tears, the mother looked at Vincent and felt his gentle calmness. His way of slowing things down opened her heart to see that her little one was meant to help another.
This is Vincent’s story. You see, by slowing down and accepting the calmness, greatness can come in unexpected ways. While there is so much sadness, there can be celebration and happiness. Not only can Vincent remind us all of this, but he can also carry the sweetest sound within him: the heartbeat that will never be lost for the family who will always miss it.
