We are seeing more and more babies in helmets these days. You may notice, stare for a slight moment and then not give it another thought. But what you don’t know, is that this is occurring in 16% of babies (and 56% of twins) today. This statistic is staggering, and has grown five-fold in the last 15 years. What is going on, and why are our children’s heads suffering? Flat Head Syndrome is known as plagiocephaly in the medical community, and it is a cranial malformation. Like I said, it is becoming more and more common with little to no attention for parents to understand why.

Five years ago, Noah Wall was born with little hope of survival. His parents learned that he suffered from hydrocephalus while he was in utero.

Birthing at home is a gentle, peaceful way to bring your child earthside. There is a calmness about being in your place of comfort. I couldn’t imagine birthing anywhere else. After experiencing 4 homebirths - one of which was too fast to have help, I figured, why save all the information for myself when I can share it with you!

The Smithsonian Magazine recently published an article focusing on the history of the first at-home pregnancy test. After reading said article, I realized that in the past 9 years, I have taken hundreds of tests, but yet I never once questioned the origin of them. And I question everything. (Understatement of the year.)

Genetics are amazing. Sometimes there is absolutely no doubt whose bloodline a new addition is related to. Other times, it takes a little digging to find that one relative whom your child truly resembles. Either way, when you compare pictures from the past and present, you end up doing a double take.

The Environmental Working Group releases the best and worst sunscreens at the start of summer each year. It is covered in every blog, everywhere… But there is something else that needs discussed this summer. It is reported that sunscreen is only a step in helping the skin stay healthy, and depending solely on it is a big mistake.

I stumbled upon this article the other day. A friend’s husband actually shared it on social media. This couple (my friend and her husband) just sold their home to spend the next few months traveling the country with their 3 young ones. They’ve been on the road for a few weeks, and I can tell just by their ‘status updates’ how much this trip has bonded them. They are an amazing family and threw caution to the wind just to ensure that they were living life – together. I’m proud of them, happy for them, and slightly jealous (who wouldn’t be!).

In 2013, The United States was declared the costliest country to give birth in, with prices more than tripling from 1996. That was three years ago. Who can guess what has happened since then? That’s right, even higher birth costs.

Marijuana, pot, cannabis, weed, or the 50 street names it is known by, is currently in the spotlight. A growing number of states have legalized marijuana, with more to soon follow, for medicinal or recreational purposes, and its use by pregnant women will increase as a result.

As I left the pool today – with a cover-up over my bikini, all 4 kids (ages 6 years down to 4 months) in tow, I received a message to write about THIS. At first I didn’t understand. How can anyone possibly shame a new mom? It happened – and probably happens more than we know.
